OVA at Willamette Classic!

WOW!  What a great way to finish the season!!  All 7 OVA travel teams competed in the presitigous Willamette Classic on May 12th and 13th and all of the teams put up some great results against some of the best talent from Oregon, Seattle, Spokane and areas all around.  Among some of the great results:

The OVA 16's Elite took 3rd, out of 81 teams, losing only to eventual champions North Pacific Juniors in the semi-finals.

And OVA 16's Blue moved up the most from anyone all tournament long.  Going in as a 70+ seed, they improved by over 35 spots and finished in the top 30!  Way to go ladies!

OVA 18's finished in the top 10 and the OVA/RR Nationals 18 team finished 2nd - with only six players on Sunday!  And the OVA 12's had one of their best performances all year.

So congratulations to all the OVA teams.  Each of you made us proud and we saw a lot of smiles all weekend long.  Way to go OVA!!

OVA 16's Elite Headed to the Junior National Championships!!!
Congratulations to the coaching staff, players and parents for a huge honor - the OVA 16's Elite team just accepted a bid to play in the USAV Junior Nationals Championships this July in Columbus, OH!!!!  Very, very few teams from across the country qualify for this prestigous event - and they will be only the 2nd team to ever attend from Central Oregon (after our combined OVA/Rimrock 18's Nationals team last year).  The team will now be working hard to fundraise enough money to attend, so stay tuned for more details.  And, again, congratulations - WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!

Regional Championship Results
Another strong weekend of OVA performances, this time at the CEVA Regionals.  Highlights from this past weekend:

  • OVA/Rimrock 18's Nationals:  2nd place!  They fought their way out of the loser bracket to face Nike Air Elite late Sunday in the finals.  They beat them in 3 and then had to turn-around and play right away again (since it was Nike's first loss) in a tie breaking 4th set.  Although exhausted after so many matches in a row, they put a great fight but lost 22-25 in one of the most exciting Regional Championships ever.
  • OVA 18's Select - tied for 15th!  That's 2 18's teams in the top 15!!  And they had an incredible match on Saturday when they were down 4-17 in the 2nd set against Nike Air Max, only to come storming back and win the set, and the match, at 25-23!  Unbelievable!!  Way to go ladies!!
  • OVA 16's Elite - 7th place!  Highest finish ever by a Central Oregon 16's team at Regionals.  They won a super close and hard fought match on Saturday against Rose City's top 16's team, after being behind the whole 3rd set they came back and won 18-16!  This team was in Gold the entire year and finished it off with a great result at Regionals.
  • OVA 16's Silver - 3rd in Contender Division, a great result and the 2nd highest finish for a 16's team in Central Oregon!  Word is they are playing their best volleyball of the year and will be a force to be reckoned with at the Willamette Classic!!!!
  • OVA 16's Blue - 1st on the Constitution Division!!
  • OVA 14 Elite - 3rd in Diamond  These girls are improving and will be a force at Willamette!
  • OVA 14's Silver - 5th in Challenge!
  • OVA 12's - 2nd in Diamond!  Nice job ladies!!!

GO TEAM OVA!!!

OVA 18's and 16's kick butt in Spokane!

The OVA 18's & 16's Elite teams dominated in play at the Pacific NW Qualifier in Spokane.  First, the OVA 18's Select team won the Silver Division in Club and the OVA/Rimrock Nationals finished 7th in the Open Division.  Both teams played against some of the best talent in the country and held their own.  And the OVA 16's Elite team finished 23rd in the 16's Open Division - playing some of their best volleyball of the year.  All three OVA teams played our teams from across the country and went toe to toe.  Way to go ladies!  WAY TO GO OVA!!!

OVA 16's Blue wins their Power League!!

That loud boom you heard the other weekend was the OVA 16's Blue team putting the hammer down on the competition at their Power League.  They have been rapidly improving and it paid off when the team, which is a 16's team only in name - by age they are actually at 15's team - won their bracket and collected first prize!  Congratulations ladies - way to go OVA!!!!  (and no, I have no idea why Alyssa Kerry was doing a Gene Simmons/KISS impersonation in th picture)

16's Elite FINISH 9th at Colorado!!!

WOW.  WOW......What a weekend.  The OVA 16's Elite finished 9th at the Colorado Crossroads tournament in Denver.  Losing to the #1 overrall seed in a tough fought match Sunday.  That is 9th out of over 100 teams in the Nationals division - and they beat teams from all over the country, including Texas, Nebraska and California (to name just a few).  The tournament hosted over 600 teams this past weekend; 85 courts at the Downtown Denver Convention Center.  Its the 3rd largest revenue producing event the city of Denver has all year.  We're talking a BIG tournament.  And the OVA 16's Elite from Central Oregon just finished 9th!  What an amazing accomplishment and we are so proud of you!  Way to go OVA!!!
